Calypso
Background: She is the daughter of the Titan Atlas, and the Goddess nymph of Ogygia.
Her Story: She sided with her father in the First Titan War, and when Atlas lost, he was sent to hold up the sky. The Gods imprisoned Calypso on an island in gods-know-where. Sure, the occational Hero would come, but they could not stay. They always had to leave, and they left as soon as Calypso fell in love with them. A magical raft would carry them to where the Hero most wanted to go, leaving Calypso broken-hearted every single time. That was her punishment. But Ogygia was a nice island: it was sunny most of the time, with beautiful streams and a crystal cave where Calypso made her home. She had a garden and a loom, but she was alone, and now, starting from the myth, she has been there for three thousand years.
Description: She was very beautiful, with cinnamon-toast hair and almond eyes. She was a sorceress, but not like Circe or Medea. She had spells that created and fixed, not destroyed and captured. She only helped Atlas because he was her father, and over the years, her relationship with the Gods had been less strained. Hermes was kind to her, and Hephaestus often visited. She never got off Ogygia(in the myth, not in Percy Jackson), but she had a full life.
(I couldn't find any good pictures, this is the best of what I can find)
My feelings about her: I pity Calypso because she only sided with her family and got punished because of it. Her punishment is beyond cruel, using the most powerful emotion there is: love. And most of her life, Calypso was peace-loving, a gardener, and she didn't even want to participate in the war, only choosing sides when she was forced to. I don't think the Gods were very fair on her, and she deserved to live a happier life.
PS: Odysseus didn't care about her feelings, did he? He only thought about Penelope, and you say he was caring. He only cared for friends and family, not for people who deserved more then they got and tried to help whoever they can. Odysseus was HEARTLESS, and that's why I didn't write about him. He's just as bad as Poseidon when Poseidon punished him, and Calypso didn't even do anything to Odysseus! Couldn't he at least comfort her? Words of encourgement? I hate Odysseus, even if you think of him as a Hero.
PPS: She is my favorite non-God in the myths, so this is her story, and please read it carefully. Do not say I should choose a diffrent person. She was the one who deserved the most attention and love, but got nothing.
